Scrabble Time
S.B. Public Library Fundraiser
In 1948, the game, which was originally named Criss-Crossword, was officially changed to Scrabble. But it didn’t become popular until 1952, when the president of Macy’s played the game on vacation and subsequently ordered them to be sold in his stores. Nowadays, more than 150 million games have been purchased around the world. This weekend, you can show off your Scrabble skills at the S.B. Public Library’s fundraiser for its Adult and Family Literacy programs. Players are treated to brunch as they participate in two timed rounds. The event takes place Sunday, May 16, 10 a.m.-noon, Goleta Branch Library, 500 N. Fairview Ave. Cost: $15 per person (or parent/child pair playing as a single player). Players will be matched by experience levels. For more information and to sign up, call 564-5619 or email ScrabbleLibrary@gmail.com.
