A Sunday outing for lobster fishermen turned a bit perilous this week when a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was called out to rescue the trio as their 33-foot boat — which had broken one anchor line in 10-foot seas and was headed toward the shore despite a second anchor drop — drifted toward the rocky shore of San Miguel Island. The three were scooped up without incident and brought back to Santa Barbara; their boat was left in the high seas overnight, and despite fears that it might crash and become an environmental problem for the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, it drifted away from the island overnight, said the Coast Guard’s Joshua Murphy.
