Holdren’s Heads to Goleta
State Street Steakhouse Opens New Spot in Camino Real Marketplace
If all that manliness at Home Depot gets you craving a steak, Holdren’s Steaks & Seafood, the State Street fixture, is now nearby to help, having opened its third location (there’s one in Newbury Park, too) in the Camino Real Marketplace (6920 Marketplace Dr., Goleta; 685-8900).
If you’re used to the lower State location, this one will look familiar, with the same clubby feel and even a replica of what’s rumored to be the oldest bar in town (in the one on State, what was Joe’s back in the day). This carnivore’s paradise harkens back to the days of crisply cool martinis and medium-rare prime.
But Holdren’s has a bit of a trick up its Goleta sleeve, as it’s also opening Pastavino (685-7300) next door. As you might guess, the place is Italian, and here’s hoping it starts a trend of excellent edibles getting their names combined as codes for what’s up-who’s the brave entrepreneur willing to hatch Bratbier? Pastavino will be a bit less formal than Holdren’s, more of a family spot for those nights when cooking seems like too much to do.
