67-Year-Old Man Succumbs to Injuries Sustained When Hit by MTD Bus on Monday Night
The man struck by the bus at the intersection of Figueroa and De la Vina streets on Monday afternoon succumbed to his injuries late last night, according to police.
The 67-year-old man, who was crossing De la Vina when a Metropolitan Transit District bus turned left off Figueroa onto the one-way street, had appeared unconscious and critically injured when police arrived just after 4 p.m. A fair amount of blood could also be seen streaming down the street as paramedics tended to him.
The man, whose name has not been released because his family has yet to be notified, died at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital just after 11 p.m.
Along with the Santa Barbara Police Department’s Critical Accident Team, MTD is also investigating the incident and not releasing information until that is completed. MTD did issue a statement of sympathy, however, explaining in a press release, “Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of the individual involved in this most unfortunate event.”
