Let It Sway sounds a lot like the album we’ve been praying Weezer would make since, well, Pinkerton. And that’s not a bad thing. Despite the datedness of SSLYBY’s hook-laden, harmony-filled shtick, Let It Sway forces us to realize that well-crafted pop never really goes out of style. Here, the Missouri-born four-piece seems confident as ever, which ultimately makes Sway stand out from SSLY’s past three efforts. Album starter “Back in the Saddle” is a slow-building call-to-arms of sorts, beginning as a simple guitar ballad before exploding into a big, chant-worthy mix of “woah-ohs” and anthemic drum crescendos. From there, it’s a quick hop to “Sink/Let It Sway,” a little slice of ’60s pop heaven that seals the deal; SSLYBY are back in the saddle and ready to ride, guitar in hand.
