Important Candies Recalled for Lead Content

Nearly three years after the state first publicly noted the dangers of certain Mexican candies, the California Department of Health Services issued a warning this week stating that many of the candies contain high levels of lead. Brands Lucas Lim³n, Lucas Lim³n Con Chili, and tamarind-flavored Tama Roca Baderilla-all of which can be found in local stores-contain up to .48 parts per million of lead, a rate high enough to endanger children, infants, and fetuses. San Jose-based distributor Marquez Brothers has issued a voluntary recall, but some products may still be on shelves.
