Countywide Preventive Maintenance Application of Scrub Seal and Micro-Surfacing Project

The County of Santa Barbara, Board of Supervisors has awarded $3.4 million for the 2010/2011 County Wide Preventive Maintenance Application of Scrub Seal and Micro-Surfacing project. Important State and local funds are being used towards a comprehensive, county wide pavement preservation program by the Santa Barbara County Public Works Department.
“This important work extends the life of the roads and helps provide the traveling public with a clearer path, smoother ride and a safer trip!” said Scott McGolpin, Public Works Director. State Propositions 42 and 1B are providing the majority of the funding for this project, in addition to Measure D and State Gas Tax funds. These funds are being used to help maintain, preserve, and improve roads throughout the County of Santa Barbara.
Approximately 57 lane miles will be resurfaced with the construction of this project. Construction of this project requires a two step process. The first application will be a scrub seal, which will fill any cracks or voids in the pavement. This will be followed up with the application of a micro surfacing being placed on top of the scrub seal to provide a smooth riding surface. Construction will begin in the northern section of the county with the project finishing in the southern section of the county. A list of streets included in this project is listed below.
Construction is scheduled to begin June 6, 2011 and should be completed by late August, 2011, contingent upon weather conditions. Windsor Fuel Company was awarded the contract for the County Wide Preventive Maintenance Application of Scrub Seal and Micro Surfacing, and the County’s Public Works Department will inspect and administer the construction of this project.
Construction will occur Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The Department encourages the travelling public to use an alternate route when possible. Drivers should be aware of reduced speed zones and increased traffic control when driving through the construction sites.
