Sheriff’s detectives took down two large marijuana grows on Monday, ripping up over 900 plants that would have been worth an estimated $8.7 million on the street.

Both operations were located on private property, said department spokesperson Drew Sugars, and authorities expect to make arrests in connection with the ongoing investigation at some point in the near future.

The choreographed, all-day raid began in the early morning hours, reported Sugars, as sheriff’s personnel descended simultaneously on a grow off Tepusquet Road near Colson Canyon and a separate grow off San Marcos Pass near Kinevan Road.

The North County bust yielded more than 570 plants and 100 pounds of processed weed. According to detectives—who described the plants as unusually large and well-tended—the total amount of marijuana seized at that location was worth around $6 million.

The South County takedown saw the seizure of 195 plants from an outdoor grow, 134 plants from an indoor operation, 200 pounds of processed marijuana, and 50 pounds of hash. All told, that raid netted nearly $2.8 million of illegal product, said Sugars.
