Waka Flocka Flame Redux
Good things come to those who wait — especially if you’re a Waka Flocka Flame fan. Back in October, the Atlanta rapper more than sold out the Earl Warren Showgrounds before calling the show off due to undisclosed “issues.” Since then, Flocka’s 805 flock has been on pins and needles waiting for a reschedule. Well, this Saturday the wait is over. The “Hard in Da Paint” mastermind heads back to Earl Warren on November 22 for round two, this time with Bay Area rapper Iamsu! in tow. Better yet? There are still tickets available, so if you lagged the first time, you’re getting a second chance now.
But if you’ve yet to jump on the Flocka bandwagon, allow us to crash-course you. Here, aggressive street anthems reign supreme (see the aforementioned “Paint” for starters), and the deliveries are fast, furious, and ferocious. Vocally, it’s easy to see kindred spirits in raspy Southern brethren like Ludacris and Killer Mike, but Flock’s twisted chaos falls more in line with DMX’s mercilessness than anything else. As for the beats, they’re an almost-impenetrable onslaught of electronic high hats that sizzle menacingly underneath the rhymes.
But don’t get us wrong — Flock’s still having fun. He just goes a little harder than your average party boy when he does it. Take, for example, 2013’s “7 Days of the Week.” Or his recent web-exploding post for a personal joint roller. In case you’re wondering, over 60,000 applied for the $50,000 salary position, which eventually went to actor/blunt enthusiast Seth Rogen. Needless to say, Flock’s Santa Barbara date was always going to be a spectacle. Now that we’ve waited extra-long, it’s sure to be nothing short of insane.
Waka Flocka Flame plays the Earl Warren Showgrounds (3400 Calle Real) on Saturday, November 22, at 8 p.m., ages 16+. Visit ticketfly.com for tickets and info.
