Graduation Number Grab Bag
UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang will need to break out the hand sanitizer to prepare for shaking hands with students at eight separate commencement ceremonies this week. They begin on 6/9 with the College of Creative Studies ceremony and end on the evening of 6/16 with the conferral of graduate degrees. In all, the university will have awarded 5,867 degrees. Area high school graduations have begun already. Santa Barbara public high schools will award between 1,500 and 1,600 diplomas.
With graduation already a couple weeks in the rearview mirror, Santa Barbara City College officials have had a chance to crunch the numbers on its 2013 class. The oldest was 67 and the youngest 18. The average grade point average of the graduates was 3.23, with 102 achieving perfect 4.0 scores.
