Libraries Reduce Hours
New Times Will Begin July 12
A cut in the operating budgets of several Santa Barbara libraries will result in reduced hours at many area branches.
Starting July 12, the central and the eastside branches — including the Faulkner Galleries and public meeting rooms — will be closed on Mondays. The Goleta and Montecito libraries have also made several changes to their schedule. Goleta Library’s Monday hours will be changed to 12-6 p.m. and the Montecito library will be open on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Santa Barbara is wrestling with a budget deficit of $8.9 million, and less funding for the Public Library System is part of a broader program of cutbacks being implemented. Reductions in library hours could have been more severe if not for financial help from Friends of the Library groups in Santa Barbara City and elsewhere in the county.
