Earlier this month, the Santa Barbara Planning Commission approved plans for a new fire station on the corner of Lillie Avenue and Temple Street in Summerland, the Coastal View News reports. The new structure — designed at two stories and 5,930 square feet and expected to cost $2.5 million — would replace a current small and shabby Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District station between Lillie Avenue and Highway 101. Fire Chief Mike Mingee, the weekly stated, said a funding plan should be in place sometime next year.
