Women’s reproductive rights are in greater jeopardy today than at any time since the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe. v. Wade decision legalized abortion.

We have a pro-choice president in the White House and a pro-choice majority in the Senate. And Roe v. Wade is still the law of the land. Right?

Well the chilling truth is that the rights granted in the Roe v. Wade decision are already meaningless for millions of women living in the U.S. And things are only getting worse.

Political and religious right-wingers have been hacking away at the Constitutional protections of Roe v. Wade ever since the decision was announced. And in state after state—and even in Congress—lawmakers are passing more and more restrictive laws that are undercutting Roe and limiting women’s access to abortion care and birth control!

Speculation is growing that the U.S. Supreme Court may be willing to restrict Roe even further. And believe it or not, women actually have even less access to abortion care than they did before President Obama was elected—because complicated and restrictive provisions in the healthcare reform law are causing many insurance companies to stop covering abortions!

Then, just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, the tragic defeat of so many women’s rights supporters in the 2010 elections has put the enemies of reproductive freedom in the driver’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and dozens of state legislatures. And another election loss like this year’s could spell the end of legal abortion!
