Eastsiders will adjust. We’re used to that. But this one is a sore loss. We lose something central to our neighborhood. Our friends are forced to move on. We wish them luck.

Gone is our handy, taken-for-granted source
For afterthought shopping;
For running to get that lost ingredient late at night in the bask of bright lights and familiar faces;
For the aisles of goods that are always in the same place;

For the abundance of chiles, tomatillos, nopales, cilantro, mangos and corn, and the abuelitas who would share their recipes and remedies;

For the many years of support to our local schools: Franklin, SBHS, and Adelante.

Gone is that place you’d find neighbors and friends in the parking lot or the produce section or the check out line, and often times your quick trip to the store would take much longer than you anticipated.

For all of those things, the store would send you home fuller than when you came, with groceries but sometimes more importantly, that human connection you only get from the sense of your own community.

Scolari’s you will be missed.
