A Santa Barbara woman has been arrested on 11 felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor – a boy who was friends with her son.

Genise Schu, 47, has allegedly had a roughly seven-year sexual relationship with the now-20-year-old victim, according to authorities.

The relationship began when the alleged victim was 13 years old and would spend the night at the home of one of his classmates, her son. At some point, allegedly, she showed him pornography while others were sleeping, and eventually orally copulated the boy and had sexual intercourse at least twice. Since then the two have allegedly had consensual sex hundreds of times during the relationship, according to a declaration from Santa Barbara police officer Corina Terrence.

The police department’s crimes against persons unit was allegedly contacted recently by the victim’s family after text messages sent by Schu and intended for the victim were seen by a member of the victim’s family. According to Terrence’s declaration, Schu confessed to the sexual relationship in an interview, and “corroborated the dates of the initial sex acts by recalling deaths in her family and an addition put on her house around that time.”

The charges filed against Schu-who is married-are: one count of showing pornography to a minor, two counts of oral copulation of a minor under the age of 14, two counts of a lewd act with a child under 14, three counts of sexual intercourse with a person under 18 years old, and three counts of oral copulation of a minor under the age of 18

Schu has no prior criminal record on file in Santa Barbara. There is no indication anyone in her family knew about what was allegedly happening. Schu didn’t return a phone call or respond to an email seeking comment. It was unclear in court records whether she had retained an attorney.

Senior deputy district attorney Joyce Dudley, who will be prosecuting the case, said she has been in touch with the alleged victim and his family. “He comes from a very supportive family who is right there for him,” she said.

Schu, who is out on $100,000 bail, had her arraignment delayed and is set to return to court August 25.
