Geoffry Canada
Education Leader Gives Free Lecture
Named one of America’s Best Leaders in U.S. News and World Report in 2005, Geoffrey Canada has since had a book written about him (Whatever It Takes: Geoffrey Canada’s Quest to Change Harlem and America by Paul Tough) and caught the eye of President Obama. In 1990, Canada created the visionary nonprofit Harlem Children’s Zone, which provides mentoring and education to kids in some of New York City’s most impoverished neighborhoods. His dedication to bettering the quality of life for indigent youth has made him a leading voice in education and is being cited by Obama, among others, as a model for nationwide reform. Canada will give a free lecture on Wednesday, February 17, at 8 p.m., at Marjorie Luke Theatre, 721 West Cota Street, 884-4087 x3.
