Music: The Stripes
Local Girl Rockers Debut on Earth Day’s Main Stage
Many young girls dream of becoming a musician and performing on stage. As a musician myself, I have been lucky enough to have experienced the excitement of playing live with my band. Last weekend at the Earth Day festival, I had a chance to be a spectator and enjoying the music of a young group called The Stripes, who are three amazing girls—Zosia Amberger, Miranda Jackson, and Sofia Guerra–whose dreams became reality this weekend thanks to Girls Rock SB and Santa Barbara’s Earth Day music venue. After their show I sat down with the trio for a question and answer session.
Who is in the band and what instruments are played? The Stripes are three girl rockers: Sofia on vocals, Miranda on bass, and Zosia on drums.
What are your ages and how long have you played music? Sofia is 9 years old and has been singing her whole life. She also plays guitar. Miranda is 11 and in 6th grade. She plays bass mostly but loves many other instruments and has played music most of her life. Zosia is 12 years old and in 6th grade. She has been playing drums for the past few years.
What type of music do you play? Mostly indie pop. We create, write, record, and perform our own original songs.
How did the Stripes form? We all met each other at Girls Rock Santa Barbara, [the] after school rock band program.
How did you feel about performing in front of a live audience? Miranda: “Nervous at start but after a while I get used to it and it’s fun.” Sofia: “Shy but I really enjoy performing.” Zosia: “Nervous, but I know we always perform our best.”
What are your dreams when you grow up? Sofia: “I want to become a solo artist and/or have a band.” Miranda: “ I want to have music as a hobby.” Zosia: “I want to become doctor.”
What or who inspires you do play music? Jenny the founder of GRSB and all the other girls in Girls Rock.
