This year’s Friendship Paddle, which took place on September 8, was dedicated to Courtney Brewer, an incredible member of the Santa Barbara ocean community and longtime kindergarten teacher. After first being diagnosed with melanoma in 2013, Brewer’s cancer returned and spread despite previous treatment efforts. Although Brewer was unable to attend her paddle due to an unexpected turn in her health, some of her family members and many of her friends paddled on her behalf as the community rallied in her support.
