Helping adolescents develop a healthy relationship with eating can be a challenging task. This complex issue encompasses eating behavior, attitudes towards food, and body image.

Presenting on this issue is Dr. Maria Demma Cabral MD is a highly respected and renowned pediatrician who specializes in adolescent eating disorders and Dr. Aubrey Toole, PhD, is a highly reputable psychologist with extensive expertise in treating and preventing eating and body image issues. Dr.Cabral and Dr. Toole will be presenting on several areas of interest in this topic and answering these questions:

• What are eating disorders?

• How do eating disorders present?

• What are the evidence-based approaches to treating eating disorders in youth?

• How can parents and schools support eating disorder prevention and recovery?

• What does a healthy relationship to food and body look like?

Join our community of educators, mental health professionals, parents, and community members as we learn together how to best support the youth in our community develop a positive relationship with food and their bodies.The presentation by Dr. Cabral and Dr. Toole will be followed by Q&A, and intimate break-out rooms for facilitated discussions.

 About our Speakers;

Dr. Maria Demma Cabral MD

Maria Demma Cabral, MD, received her medical degree from the University of the Philippines Manila and completed her residency training in pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, in Paterson, New Jersey. She pursued further training in adolescent medicine at Niklaus Children’s Hospital, in Miami, Florida where she started her career in diagnosing and treating youth with disordered eating. She has served various academic and clinical roles at her previous institutions prior to joining Cottage Health last fall of 2022. She provides consultation for community providers on adolescent-related concerns and is currently seeing patients at the Grotenhuis Pediatric Specialty Clinic.

Dr. Aubrey Toole PhD

Aubrey Toole, PhD, is a licensed psychologist whose research and clinical work has focused on the treatment and prevention of eating and body image problems. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Emory University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, where she worked with children, adolescents, and young adults with eating disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, where her training focused on evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and high-performance athletes. Currently, Dr. Toole is on the clinical faculty of Stanford University’s School of Medicine and also works in private practice, seeing adolescents and adults in-person in Santa Barbara, CA, and via telehealth across California.
