Every properly constructed estate plan includes several important appointed roles, such as executors, trustees, and agents for health care decision-making and financial transactions. We have all heard some sad story wherein someone unprepared was named in one of these roles. Learning more about the responsibilities of these fiduciary roles—and the distinctions between them—can help you be certain your wishes will be carried out.

Explore this important topic during a free Zoom webinar presented by the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s Planned Giving Advisory Council, featuring attorney, educator, advisory council member, and Mullen & Henzell L.L.P. Partner Brett Piersma.

Piersma will provide insight into how you can select the individuals or organizations best suited for each role, given your unique family situation and estate needs. He’ll discuss when it makes sense to name the same individual or institution for more than one role, versus dividing the responsibilities. Piersma will also explain the choice between naming multiple individuals for the same role or naming a professional, such as a licensed fiduciary or a corporate trustee.
