Fashion Exhibition: 65th Anniversary Paris Night Looks
Santa Barbara’s Couture Pattern Museum will be presenting haute couture dress designs curated from 1957, celebrating the 65th Anniversary of Vogue Magazine’s Paris Night Looks, as part of the 1st Thursday Artwalk on Nov. 3, 2022. 5-8pm at Workzones, 351 Paseo Nuevo.
This 1957 Vogue Magazine launch represented the time in history that world-famous Parisian designers officially licensed their haute couture designs line-by-line for the home seamstress through paper patterns. Walk amongst the elegant spirit of the democratization of high fashion represented by these four lively recreations, exhibited side-by-side with original patterns, magazine photos, and store counter books, all from sixty-five years ago. Cara Austine, a Santa Barbara artist, fashion historian, and couture seamstress, authentically recreated the dresses.
The Couture Pattern Museum, based in Santa Barbara, CA, oversees one of the world’s largest collections of commercially licensed couture dress patterns. Its mission is to educate, recreate, and preserve dresses and fragile patterns from the era when the high culture was brought into the home by the home seamstress and worn on Main Street and to local events everywhere.
We encourage patrons to have fun, dress up, or wear a historical costume, and come and celebrate the 65th anniversary of Paris Night Looks with us. The event is free, and donations for future exhibitions are appreciated.
