Jeannine Lombard Richards
Jeannine Lombard Richards passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022 in Santa Barbara, two days after her 91st birthday, with family by her side.
Jeannine was born in Santa Barbara on April 18, 1931 to Bill and Grace Lombard. For over 60 years she dedicated her life to working with the youth of our community. She and her late husband, Jack, raised five children and many foster children. She co-founded (with her husband) Camp Lorr, a summer day camp for boys and girls. She often said those were the happiest days of her life. She was co-owner and director of Las Positas Family Swim Club, and founder of three local nursery schools; Wynken, Blynken & Nod (#1and #2) and Evergreen Park Preschool. She directed and taught at all three. After twenty-five years, Jeannine and her husband sold Camp Lorr and the Nursery Schools, and Jeannine went to work for Santa Barbara City Schools Pre-School/Child Care programs. For 16 years, she also worked as co-owner of Santa Barbara Art and Silkscreen along with her sons.
Jeannine loved camping, sitting around a campfire, eating s’mores. Singing and laughing in harmony with family and friends were her most cherished occasions. She loved hosting a houseful of people, and could usually be found in the kitchen, cooking and baking for everyone. There was always room for one or more at the dinner table. Her door was always open.
Jeannine was the sister of Colleen Jeffers (Hoyt) and Jim Lombard (Suzi). She was married to John “Jack” Richards for almost sixty years. She was step-mom to John “JR” Richards (Susanne) and mom to Jill Richards Proctor (Bill), Jan, James (Cheryn) and Jake Richards. Nana to Talli Richards-Versola (Chris), JR Richards (Min), Josh Shirvanian (Issi) and Theresa Richards (Dylan). Great Nana to Jenna1, Jessie, Justin, Blayze, Dom & Oli, Jenna2, Zachary & Mason. Aunt to Stan & Rick Jeffers and Esme Lombard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sons John and Jan.
‘You were always great with the kiddos. You will be missed. Sleep warm, and know that you are loved.’
