Carole Susan Burr
Longtime Santa Barbara resident, Carole Susan Burr passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on January 30, 2022 surrounded by her loving children.
During her early years, she attended Santa Barbara area schools and met her lifelong love, Esley Burr, at a school dance in Fallbrook, California. Four months later, they married and moved back to Santa Barbara in 1956 where they started their family. Esley began working for the United States Postal Service in Santa Barbara that year while Carole began her career at Cottage Hospital and Sansum Medical Clinic in where she made lifelong friends and worked for decades.
Upon Elsey’s retirement in 1991, Carole and Esley left Santa Barbara to travel with and enjoy retirement. Esley and Carol bought a home in Troy, Montana where they enjoyed fishing and hosting family during the summers. After living in Montana, they moved to St. George, Utah, where they spent time with longtime friends from Esley’s career in the United States Postal Service. After 3 years in Utah, Esley and Carole moved to the Oregon Coast where they remained for 8 years before returning to the Central Coast and settling in Orcutt, California.
Carole loved to make quilts, leaving many beautiful ones for us to remember her, she also loved knitting and crocheting and the family’s children all had homemade blankets to snuggle with. Carole will always be remember for her kindness for the underdogs and helping those who struggled. When things go tuff she got tougher and pulled us all up.
Carole is survived by her two sisters, Diane Self and Marylyn Lyell, as well as her three loving children Steven Burr, Kathy Burr and Darlene Powell. She will be deeply missed by her eight grandchildren: Ashley, Jessica, Chelsea, Jack, Christine, Cody, Owen and Emily and is further survived by five great-grandchildren: Landon, Kali, Luke, Lane and Scarlett.
Carole will be truly missed but her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with the love of her life and husband of nearly 60 years. Until we see each other again Mom and Pappa We love you
