This League of Women Voters of Santa Barbara Forum will include a sneak peek of the documentary “Just the Beginning: A Century of Political Power and the League of Women Voters.”
You will hear from LWV Presidents in states where voter suppression is taking place, what is being done to fight for voting rights and what people in other states can do. The speakers are: Grace Chimene, President, LWV Texas; Susannah Scott, President, LWV Georgia, and Pinny Sheoran, President-Elect, LWV Arizona.
A century ago, the League of Women Voters was born out of the fight for women’s suffrage. Today the fight for voting rights—for everyone continues. LWVUS President Deborah Turner and other LWV members have been arrested at White House protests as they demand that Congress pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The Forum speakers will explain why that fight is so important.
