You have been invited to a special International Women’s Day celebration by the United Nations Association of Santa Barbara with a very special guest speaker: Senator Hannah Beth Jackson!
A little on the lot of women worldwide right now:
In 1918, women over the age of 30 were granted the right to vote. Women were granted the right to vote in 1920 in the United States. Women all over the world were agitating for suffrage rights, and what kicked it into high gear was the first International Women’s Day March in 1917. Women’s Day marches ignited the Soviet revolution, the Spanish Civil War, and many feminist movements around the world. Moral of this story: when women get on their feet, and start demanding change, the world changes.
The work for women’s rights is not done.
Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, will be talking about the rights we now enjoy, and how women from other states are reaching out to her on getting similar rights.
Please come for lunch on Sunday, March 1st, at noon at the new Pascucci’s at 509 State St. We’ll be supporting business owner, Laura Knight. You’ll get to meet other incredible women in film, politics and government, business owners, health, and non-profits. Bring your business cards and prepare to meet new friends!
Register for lunch here: https://www.unasb.org/
There’s a march afterwards at 2 PM to honor the suffragettes that sacrificed so much for us to be where we are today. Please wear white to honor them.
Feel free to invite friends, and men are, of course, welcome.
