Please Join Santa Barbara’s finest Spoken Word Poets as they square off in this exciting monthly competitive performance poetry event! All poets and forms of ORIGINAL poetry are encouraged to attend. Poetry Slam Santa Barbara is a monthly poetry competition that invites poets and their original poetry of all genres to attend and be a Voice of our Community for our Community.
We will ask 5 audience members to be judges and score each poet Zero through ten. Judges are to judge 50% on the poem and 50% on the performance! The scores are tallied, and the top three poets will come back at the end of the night to compete for bragging rights and for a cash prizes! We will have DJ Aqua Ferocious to keep the mood and beat rolling throughout the evening, as well as one or more featured Poets and a featured musical artist to wow you with their best!
We are asking for a suggested of $10.00 ($5.00 for students) to help defray our costs. Venmo and PayPal are preferred donation methods and those making a donation in advance of the event will have access to preferred seating for the event :), you also may pay cash at the door. Rules for Poets:
This is not an open mic – original poetry only
No instruments or musical accompaniment allowed (ALTHOUGH WE LOVE TO HAVE A FEATURED MUSICIAN EACH MONTH, PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE FEATURED)
3 Minute Time Limit per poet, with a 1-point deduction from cumulative score for each ten seconds a poet goes over
3 – 5 Audience member judges will judge using Olympic style scoring (8.5, 9.5 etc.)
Top three scoring poets will compete for the following cash prizes:
1st Place – $100.00
2nd Place – $50.00
3rd Place – $25.00
