Give back to the beach on Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday, September 21st, 9:00 am to noon. Get outside, enjoy nature, and help clean up our beaches and waterways. With 27 sites from Carpinteria to Guadalupe, Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) unites our community for a common cause – clean beaches!
Volunteers of all ages can participate at any of the 2019 cleanup sites. Pre-registration is not required but is encouraged. Each site will have a Beach Captain who will provide necessary instructions and supplies.
Explore Ecology is encouraging volunteers to BYO- bring your own- reusable gloves, bags or buckets, and water bottles to reduce waste and decrease the cleanup’s plastic footprint.
Volunteers can install the Clean Swell App on their phones and use the App to record the trash they collect. Clean Swell will instantaneously upload to the Ocean Conservancy’s global ocean trash database. These data deliver a global snapshot of ocean trash, providing researchers and policy-makers insight to inform solutions. Visit the statewide Coastal Cleanup website for links to download the app. There will be also Data Sheets at each beach for those who don’t want to or are unable to use the app for recording their trash
This statewide event is presented by the California Coastal Commission. In Santa Barbara County, the event is organized by Explore Ecology, with the support of the County of Santa Barbara Resource Recovery and Waste Management and the Cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Solvang.
With more than 27 sites to choose from, isn’t it time to show your favorite beach some love?
Join us at Coastal Cleanup Day, on September 21st and become part of the solution to ocean pollution!
