Anastasia “Ana” Zaferris
06/10/1936 – 07/08/2011
Ana was born June 10, 1939 in Detroit Michigan to Nicolaus & Stella Zaferris, and grew up there. Ana treasured her Greek heritage, and traveled to her ancestral home on the island of Lesbos. She lived in Greece and Rome in 1963 with her aunt Cleo Lambo and cousin Felecia. She also later visited islands in the South Pacific.
She worked in her Father’s Greek restaurant in Fresno, lived in New York City for 3 years with her husband, divorced, resided in San Francisco during the 60’s and enjoyed living for awhile in a nudist colony.
She moved to Santa Barbara in 1974, attended City College and received a BA degree in Psychology from UCSB. Her career was mostly in sales – business equipment and later advertising. In recent years, she worked for High Tech Times, the Peacemaker Community, the Maritime Museum, Ocean Futures and has been with State Street Ballet since 2005 as Office Manager and Recording Secretary to the Board. She was on the advisory board of RAWA Supporters Santa Barbara and was a volunteer at ASAP cat shelter. She had a big heart, loved to dance and cook and loved cats. Thanks to Serenity House where Ana spent her last days.
She is survived by her cousins William Lambo, Felecia Faulkner, Ralli Phal, and a number of other cousins. A celebration of her life was held Saturday, July 16, 11:30 AM at State Street Ballet studios.
Memorial donations should go to State Street Ballet, 2285 Las Positas Rd. Santa Barbara, CA 93105.
