Dylan Corselius Willson
Dylan Corselius Willson 5/27/86 – 7/14/08
Dylan was born in Los Gatos, California on May 27,1986. He spent his entire life in Santa Barbara and loved the ocean, the mountains, the creeks and the Chumash ruins near his Mission Canyon home.
Dylan attended Roosevelt School, Washington School, La Colina, Santa Barbara High School and San Marcos High School. In his elementary years he performed with Showstoppers for three seasons. Throughout junior high and high school Dylan was involved in all aspects of the music program: jazz band, marching band, orchestra and percussive theater. He had the honor of performing on stage in Carnegie Hall with the San Marcos Orchestra in 2001.
Upon graduation from high school he entered Santa Barbara City College and was in the process of preparing to transfer to UCSB. He was working towards a degree in Environmental Studies. His greatest wish was to become a writer for the National Geographic magazine.
Dylan worked for Peet’s Coffee for the past two years and it was his second home. He loved being there with his fellow workers and he loved his loyal Peet’s customers.
Dylan was an accomplished writer and an avid reader. He had just completed the second chapter of his novel and had authored many incredible pieces of poetry.
Dylan loved the outdoors and spent much time hiking and surfing and walking his dog. He could light up the room with his sparkling blue eyes. He put great store in honesty, kindness, loyalty, ethics and spirituality. He was truly a beautiful person whose life, though too short, left a large imprint.
He is survived by his proud, loving, and deeply saddened parents Grace and Gary Willson, Cheryl Willson, His girlfriend Christain Mock, his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his dog Jupiter. He remains in our hearts forever.
Because of his deep love for nature and learning, contributions can be made in his name to Santa Barbara City Scholarship Fund, PO Box 3620 Santa Barbara CA 93130 or to the Heifer Foundation at www.heifer.org/myregistry/dylanwillson
There is no such thing as an average person
Each one of us expresses humanity in some different way
The beauty and the bloom of each human soul is a thing apart- a separate holy miracle under God, never repeated throughout millenniums of time. – Anonymous
THE GLIDER
For the stiff glider
he has no purpose
but the will of wind
and follows ends
of breath in sky
he pushes up naked
but is not driven
floating, falling, diving, drowning
with frozen form
snow foam and sterile
the sky fills him
I am this glider
with no shoes on
on the roof with breeze
on the roof with the sun
warm
