David Tullidge Millar, also known as Dave Kelly, was born in Los Angeles October 20, 1925 and died in Santa Barbara at Serenity House on December 13, 2008. He enlisted in the army at age 18 where they utilized his boxing skills which he had developed as a teenager and later used in motion pictures from 1950 to 1970.

Dave helped choreograph fights for Stallone in “Rocky” and Newman in “Somebody Up There Like Me”. He remembered most fondly the gentlemanly demeanor of the actor Paul Henreid who helped him along his way and encouraged him to return to college where he obtained a BA from Pepperdine.

David’s real calling was that of writer/dramatist. He completed three novels and had two plays produced successfully in Hollywood. One screen play titled “A Man and His Lion” was optioned by Tippi Hedron.

David was sent to the SB writers’ conference to represent Pepperdine and talk with
Bud Schulberg with whom he had worked in “On the Waterfdront. There he met his future wife, Elaine Marcus of Santa Barbara and they married a few years later.
