Police Investigate Strange Parking Lot Death

Early Tuesday morning, a Santa Barbara worker called the police to report an apparent vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at City Parking Lot 11 on 523 Anacapa Street.

At approximately 12:23 a.m., city police officers, firefighters, and paramedics arrived on scene, where they found a 27-year-old Santa Barbara man “pinned underneath the front of a pickup truck in the lot,” police spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood told The Independent.

No one else was present, Harwood said. Police investigators are still trying to determine whether the incident was accidental or intentional, as well as who was driving the white Chevrolet pickup truck. According to Harwood, it is not yet known whether the truck belonged to the victim, whose name hasn’t been released due to the ongoing investigation. His family was notified on Wednesday.
