Trader Joe's

Trader Joe’s grocery stores, responding not only to consistent pressure from Greenpeace activists but also customer buying trends, announced on 3/23 that it will purchase all of its seafood—frozen, fresh, and canned—from sustainable sources by 12/31/12. Nationwide, including in Santa Barbara’s three store locations, the company will also reportedly label all seafood with species’ Latin names, origin, and catch or production method. The announcement also went on to say that, based on customer feedback, Trader Joe’s stopped selling Chilean sea bass in 2005, orange roughy in July 2009, and red snapper in March 2010.
