ROADS MORE TRAVELED
The Santa Barbara Downtown Organization
endorsed Measure D in its new form. Its president Marshall Rose
said that the endorsement came in light of the measure’s potential
to build up alternative forms of transportation that could offset
the negative impact that commuters have on the downtown area.
The county will apply for state park funds
to create a five-mile hiking and biking trail connecting the City
of Carpinteria to U.S. Forest Service lands. The trail would use
existing county easements. County staff will also look into the
possibility of using the same funding source to extend the trail an
additional two miles through federal land to East Camino Cielo
Road, which traces the ridgeline of the Santa Ynez Range and
provides access to the backcountry.
