A Course in Life
I learned to play golf at Ocean Meadows and have been playing there for over 10 years. It’s my “home” course and a community center for the people who play there. It is also a place where I have felt more connected to the natural world. It is ironic that once closed, the community will have less access to the depth of its beauty, not more. I realize that there are folks who are elated about this event. I just want you to know that others are heart-broken. I know that I am.
Ocean Meadows is
A long walk of wonder~
Delight in spotting bobcats, foxes, humming birds, and kites
Moments of awe~
Rainbows over shoulders and sunshine through mist
A sense of humility~
A gift from the game and a Great Egret’s majestic strides
The sounds of seals~
Barking and shouting their Song of Songs
Hawks nesting~
Fledglings launching their souls into the wind
Owls peering from hidden perches~
Locations know only by the most observant
Seasonal journeys~
Geese, ducks, coots, and swans migrating, mating, nesting, and nurturing
The cycle of life and death runs its course at Ocean Meadows
Its players are bound by a love of golf and each other
In joy, hardship, success, and mourning
This is a place where people connect to each other and the natural world
This is a place that is important to its inhabitants
It is a hub a church a nature center a temple a gym a school
A fountain a feature a university
A course in life
