Santa Barbara Newcomers Club Announce New President and Incoming Board
The Newcomers Club, founded in 1955 is Santa Barbara’s premier social club for residents new to the area. Russell Werner will serve as SBNC’s new President. Upon his appointment Mr. Werner stated, “It’s a great honor to be selected as President of The Santa Barbara Newcomers Club and work with such an extraordinary Board. With over 525 active members, it has long played an important role in the fabric of Santa Barbara community life. Since its inception we have introduced thousands of members to the richness of Santa Barbara. That richness comes from the cultural and philanthropic environment as well as the vast array of outdoor activities that make Santa Barbara so special. Alumni can be found in leadership positions throughout the region and it’s hard to find an organization that doesn’t have at least one or two former Newcomers.”
Werner continued, “We add dozens of new members a month who can select from more than 50 activities each month. That gives our members approximately 600 activities and events a year from which to choose! Outdoor hikes, kayaking, sailing, performing arts, gardening, charitable outreach, dinner parties and more – are conducted by volunteers within the Club. All of these choices enable those new to Santa Barbara to meet other members. By the end of the two year membership, Club members have developed deep friendships as well as an extended network of current and former members. We encourage anyone new to the Santa Barbara area to learn more about SBNC. We conduct an introductory meeting for prospective members on the first Monday of each Month.”
