About Explore Ecology: Explore Ecology empowers people to protect and preserve the environment. Our work combines environmental awareness and artistic exploration to create a connection between people and their environment. Explore Ecology addresses how individuals can effect positive environmental change, with a focus on teaching about the interconnectedness of environmental issues, stressing the importance of individual choices and actions, promoting problem solving skills through exploration with Reuse materials, and facilitating individual actions through community services learning projects. Our programs include Art From Scrap, Environmental Education, and the Watershed Resource Center.

About Art From Scrap: Art From Scrap (AFS) was formed in 1990 as a ReUse retail store and an Arts Center. AFS quickly added an environmental education program with a focus on Reduce, Reduce, and Recycle. Over the years the education program has grown to help tens of thousands of students throughout Santa Barbara County understand the importance of conserving their environment through reducing waste, improving water quality, and organic gardening. As AFS’s programs broadened over the past two decades, it outgrew its name. Art From Scrap now operates as a major program of Explore Ecology, continuing to deliver all of the well known and much loved ReUse store and art programs that the community has come to rely on.
