California’s unemployment rate dropped a few ticks in May to 7.4 percent, down from 7.7 in April. Last May, the unemployment rate was 8.1 percent. The state’s unemployment rate decreased from 11 percent to 10.9 percent, and the national rate currently sits at 7.9 percent. Of the 3,700 jobs added in May, 1,100 were in agriculture. Adding the most positions were leisure and hospitality at 1,200 and business and professional services at 800.
