Arts and Crafts Sell

Re: Your article on the December 11, 2010 Santa Barbara City College Adult Continuing Education Arts and Crafts Faire at the Wake Center:

As the volunteer coordinator I am happy to report that the event did have an unexpectedly high turnout in both student and teacher participation, with an estimated 200-plus shoppers. There was over $13,000 in sales and more than $1,300 has been donated to the SBCC Foundation for various arts and crafts programs.

I believe we accomplished the event goals to showcase the Adults Arts and Crafts Continuing Education programs, give every student who wanted to exhibit the chance to exhibit, give shoppers outstanding bargains, and show the viability of having sale events to raise donations from those who benefit and enjoy the arts and crafts programs.

The event would not have been as successful as it was without the help of the many arts and crafts adult students and teachers, the unofficial Adult Education Group “ACES,” and of course the many shoppers. There were too many adult volunteers to list in this update to your article.

Your article would not be complete without the acknowledgment of the individual City College administrators and staff members who gave support and help to the event. Those supporters in the Continuing Education Division that I know by name include Vice President Dr. Ofelia Arellano, Dean of Instruction Dr. Bonito Schaffner, Program Directors Andrew Harper and Kendall Harris, Assistant Dean John Barron, Haveri in the Wake office, Jesus, Gustavo, and the custodial staff at the Wake center, teachers Gary Elkins, Martin Fowler, Lauren Kearns, and Barbara Loebman, and Erna for having her snack shop open. I apologize to the many other supporters and helpers in the college administration and SBCC Foundation whom I missed acknowledging.

The participants in this Faire hope that the event will be repeated several times a year and under official SBCC sponsorship.
