Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid
Since forming in 1995, Slightly Stoopid has melded rap and rock, but it’s the prominence of reggae in their sound that has always brought that summertime feeling to their tunes. On Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid, the guys combine “outtakes, rarities, and a couple new joints” that fit right in with the band’s sunny sound. Also included are covers of UB40’s “I Would Do for You” and a tangy twist on the Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider.” Meanwhile, the band’s raw sound shines through on the trumpet and guitar melange of “Circle House Blues” and the rougher, percussion-heavy “London Dub.” Finally, it is the newly recorded versions of two old favorites, “False Rhythms” and “Sensimilla,” that ground the album with their traditional reggae flavor. Slightly Not Stoned Enough embodies the band’s value of total independence; they chose to stay away from the commercial advantages of a major label contract in exchange for the opportunity to stay true to their roots.
