Winchester Gun Club Seeks Permit Reissue
Public Comment Period Open
With nearly 700 members, the Winchester Canyon Gun Club is one of the county’s most popular target shooting areas. Located in the U.S. Forest Service’s Santa Barbara Ranger District, Winchester remains open even when fire danger closes other firearm-friendly areas. Since 1969, the range has held a special use permit allowing it to offer rifle, pistol, and black powder target shooting, in addition to trap, skeet, and clay pigeon shooting.
Members of the public are being offered an opportunity to comment on the environmental Impact Statement analyzing the range – by contacting Project Team Leader Jeff Bensen at (805) 961-5744 – as well as to attend an open house at Los Padres National Forest Headquarters in Goleta, at 6755 Hollister Avenue, Suite 150, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9.
