Wishes for a Fatality-Free Holiday
The California Highway Patrol is gearing up for a Christmas crackdown in the hope of keeping the holiday fatality free. Heavily traveled highways mark late-month travel, and from December 24-28, all available officers will be on patrol both to assist drivers and watch for speeding, unbelted seatbelts, texting, phoning, and drunk driving. CHP reminds holiday revelers to appoint a designated driver.
During the same enforcement period last year, five people in California died in traffic accidents — two pedestrians, one motorcyclist, and two passengers not wearing seatbelts. CHP hauled in 221 drunk drivers. “We want everyone to have a happy holiday season this year and ensure nobody is forced to deal with the loss of a loved one,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow.
