KCLU wins 5 AP Mark Twain Awards
Station is Most Honored in Western U.S. Small Markets
KCLU received five awards at the Pasadena Convention Center ceremony for stories that aired in 2012. The station competed in Division II against small-market stations in the 13 Western states represented in APTRA. The station has won more APTRA awards than any other TV or radio newsroom in Ventura or Santa Barbara county.
Jim Rondeau, morning anchor and program director, was named Anchor of the Year, and News Director Lance Orozco won the Pat Davis Reporter of the Year award for the eighth time in his career. Orozco was also honored for Best Newswriting for his feature on his battle with kidney cancer, Best Spot News Story for his report on a frightened horse that ran from a beach photo shoot and swam more than a mile out to sea, and Best Use of Sound – Serious or Hard News for his piece on the controversy over the Malibu Lagoon restoration project.
KCLU provides NPR and local news programming in Ventura County at 88.3 FM, in southern Santa Barbara County at 102.3 FM and 1340 AM and in northern Santa Barbara County and Southern San Luis Obispo County at 89.7 FM.
