Stick to Subject
When I read the Indy, I more often than not read Starshine Roshell’s column. It’s usually very well-written, witty, and sometimes, in the case of the column about the possible death of the family dog, moving.
But I found her most recent column in last Thursday’s issue extremely annoying, simply because the column was one long plug for her comedian friend, right down to plugging her friend’s next appearance.
That’s great that Ms. Roshell has a friend who is a professional comedian, but I don’t want to read her column when it’s nothing but a big advertisement for this friend. Let the friend do her own publicity.
If I read Starshine Roshell’s column, it’s to learn a bit about her, her life, her thoughts, her world view: If anything, her use of the power of her column to plug her friend’s career makes me much less likely to want to read anything she has to say. Bad move, Starshine.
