All-Comers Track Meet at Carpinteria
TOP SPORTING EVENTS: JUNE 25-JULY 4
Montenegro’s national water polo team, the reigning European champions and fourth-place finishers at the 2008 Olympics, will play an exhibition game against UCSB’s men at 7 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Campus Pool.
“It’s a real special opportunity,” UCSB coach Wolf Wigo said. “Montenegro is playing four games in the U.S. The other three are against our Olympic team.” Wigo said Santa Barbara’s sister city relationship with Kotor, a seaside resort town in Montenegro, facilitated the scheduling of Monday’s game.
In order to give the Santa Barbara team more experience, Wigo said he is probably going to jump into the pool. The Gaucho coach is a three-time Olympian and former captain of the U.S. team, but his last international competition as a player was the 2004 Olympics. Former UCSB standouts Brian Alexander, a member of the current U.S. team, and Ross Sinclair also may be pressed into action.
Admission to the game is free of charge, though UCSB parking fees apply.
The Santa Barbara Foresters host a three-game baseball series against the San Luis Obispo Rattlers at UCSB this weekend.
Carpinteria High is hosting the first of four summer all-comers track and field meets Friday evening. The entry fees are $5 adults, $3 students and $2 children 12 and under.

SEMANA NAUTICA
June 29-July 12 – Semana Nautica (“marine week”) began in the 1930s when Santa Barbara residents organized sporting activities with visiting Navy seamen. It evolved into an annual sports festival open to the public around the July 4 holiday. There is no charge for spectators at any event, but the festival’s primary objective is to encourage participation. Events in the 73rd Semana Nautica include age-group swimming, ocean swims, a 15-kilometer run, beach volleyball, the Santa Barbara Open tennis tournament and a tug-of-war.
