UCSB Police Arrest Alleged Attempted Stabber
Tuesday Scuffle Resulted in Warning Emails, Text Messages to Campus Community
UCSB police have arrested 29-year-old Umberto Castellanos-Alvarez, whom they say attempted to assault a campus employee with a pocketknife and who was also the subject of Tuesday emails and text messages sent to UCSB staff and students, warning them about the incident.
Castellanos-Alvarez, himself a former employee of the campus’s UCen building, allegedly had to be restrained by staff when he brandished a knife following a dispute at the UCen on Tuesday. He then escaped, according to UCSB Police, but was arrested on Wednesday morning in Goleta on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
