Take Sacto’s Lead

After years of studying the effects of radiation, I would cheer the decision to completely shut down Diablo Canyon. I applaud the wonderful efforts by the San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace and State Senator Sam Blakeslee to keep the Nuclear Regulatory Commission honest and Diablo safer. But we are ready for the next step. Recently, during the California State Energy Commission hearing held by Assemblyman Alex Padilla, we heard testimony by Jim Shetler of the Sacramento Municipal Utilities on the decision to shut down the Rancho Seco nuclear power plant. It was a long process, but the commitment was stellar and proved to be the right decision. Hopefully the citizens of San Luis Obispo County, encouraged by the Citizen Ratepayers of California, will soon come to the same conclusion and make the commitment to shut Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant down.
