Area Company Acquired By Medical Technology Powerhouse
UCSB spinoff Sirigen Group Limited announced on August 27 that it has been acquired by medical technology powerhouse Becton, Dickinson and Co. Sirigen was born when founders Patrick Dietzen and Brent Gaylord won UCSB’s Technology Management Program business plan competition as students in 2003. The company makes ultra-vibrant polymer dyes that are used in flow cytometry, a method for counting cells and detecting biomarkers that can diagnose blood cancer. The technology is based on the research of Nobel Laureate Alan Heeger.
