Runners and swimmers both face a six-mile challenge on Sunday, July 12. The 30th annual Chuck’s Beach Run will start at Leadbetter Beach at 8 a.m., when the tide is low. That should give the runners a wide path to Hendry’s Beach, where they will turn around and race back to Leadbetter. One of the attractions of this run is the entry fee. There is none. But you have to register, starting at 7:15 a.m.

A few hardy swimmers will ply the waters from Goleta Beach to Hendry’s Beach in the Semana Nautica 6-Mile Ocean Swim. It starts at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The 73rd Santa Barbara Open tennis tournament is part of the sports festival. The men’s final will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tennis Club of Santa Barbara.

For various reasons, several of this weekend’s Semana Nautica events have been canceled. Scratch the cardboard kayak race, the stand-up paddle board race and the beach soccer tournament.

The Santa Barbara Foresters are hosting the Rawlings California Cup baseball tournament at UCSB. The ‘Sters won their opening game, 5-0 over Team Las Vegas, and this evening (Friday) at 5 p.m., they will take on the MLB Youth Academy. The winner will proceed to the 5 p.m. semifinal Saturday. The championship game of the double-elimination tournament will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by another game if necessary.
