Annual Water Distribution System flushing Program begins April 22, 2013
The Flushing Program involves systematically flushing the water distribution system from fire hydrants to scour the water mains and remove any undesired build-up in the system. This system maintenance ensures quality drinking water for our customers. Water flushed from the system may be seen flowing in street gutters as the water is directed to storm drains. City Water Crews monitor the flushing process to ensure the water does not overwhelm streets, structures, and/or storm drains. Select fire hydrants will also be flow-tested during the flushing program to ensure the fire hydrants have adequate flow capacity for fire protection.
Water customers may experience cloudy water coming from the faucets in their homes. This is normal following system flushing, and customers are advised to run the water for a few minutes until it runs clear.
The Public Works Department thanks you for your patience while we perform the annual maintenance of our water distribution system. This annual maintenance allows us to provide you with quality water and ensure adequate flows for fire protection.
