Juarez Attorney Subpoenas SB Newspapers
Though the Santa Barbara News-Press complied with a subpoena from Karen Atkins-public defender of 14-year-old Ricardo Juarez-demanding photos of the 3/14 brawl in which Juarez allegedly fatally stabbed Luis Linares, attorney Michael Cooney argued on behalf of The Independent that journalistic shield laws protect papers from having to comply with such a request.
